What is soy oil?

Soy oil is the natural oil extracted from whole soybeans. Accounting for nearly 80 percent of our total vegetable oil intake, soy oil is the most frequently consumed oil in the United States. Oil sold in the grocery store as "vegetable oil" is usually 100% soy oil. But "vegetable oil" isn't always soy oil; be sure to read labels. Soil oil is used extensively by the food industry in a variety of products including mayonnaise, coffee creamers, sandwich spreads, margarine and salad dressing.

Where can I buy soy oil?

Soy oil is sold as "vegetable oil" in nearly every supermarket in America. Because not all vegetable oil is soy oil, be sure to check the product label.

Using Soy Oil

If you cook or bake with oil, you probably are already using soy oil. Soy oil can be used in any recipe calling for vegetable oil. Light in flavor, color and taste, soy oil allows the flavors of other recipe ingredients to shine through. With a high smoke point of 440 F soy oil won't fill your kitchen with smoke when frying. Baked goods made with soy oil retain moisture and stay fresh longer than baked goods made with other fats.
