The Minnesota Soybean Research & Promotion Council invests soybean checkoff dollars in projects and activities designed to address production challenges unique to Minnesota, speed the development of new varieties, find answers to soybean pests and diseases and find new market opportunities.

Soybean Diseases & Pests

A cooperative effort between the University of Minnesota, the University of Minnesota Extension Service, and the MN Soybean Research and Promotion Council, this web site provides current headlines, links to other publications, a calendar of events... all tailored to the needs of the Minnesota soybean grower.

Protein & Oil

Soybean farmers traditionally determine crop value on yield, but soybean processors are paying for protein and oil. Because of Minnesota's northern climate, the soybeans grown here have lower protein content than the soybeans grown in warmer, southern regions. Minnesota soybean farmers are being discounted up to ten cents a bushel because of low protein and are losing market share to Asian countries, that prefer higher protein soybean meal.

For that reason, the Minnesota Soybean Research & Promotion Council is actively participating in the United Soybean Board Select Yield and Quality Program, designed to increase farmers' and processors' awareness of the issue. Farmers are encouraged to ask for high protein varieties and processors are being encouraged to offer premiums for improved traits.
