College Scholarship Application

Minnesota Soybean Research & Promotion Council College Scholarship Application

All applications must be postmarked or received no later than March 1, 2013

THE PROGRAM

The Minnesota Soybean Research & Promotion Council offers a college scholarship program to assist college juniors and seniors who are working toward a degree in soybean agronomy, soil science, soybean genetics, food sciences, animal nutrition or large animal veterinary. 

This scholarship program is administered by a Scholarship Selection Committee made up of directors from the Minnesota Soybean Research & Promotion Council and the Minnesota Soybean Growers Association.  Awards are granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, gender, disability or national origin.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Applicants to the Minnesota Soybean Research & Promotion Council College Scholarship must be –

  1. A resident of Minnesota
  2. From a family who is active in agriculture
  3. A junior or senior in college
  4. Pursuing an education in soybean agronomy, soil science, soybean genetics, large animal vet or animal nutrition
  5. Active in ag-related, campus and/or community activities

AWARDS

Up to four (4) awards of $2,000 each will be granted.  Awards are not renewable.  Awards are for undergraduate study only.

 

APPLICATION

Interested students must complete the application online.  Mail a copy of the following to the address below:

  •  Current complete official transcript of grades (online transcripts and grade reports are not acceptable)
  • Letter of recommendation from a professor
  • Second letter from community member, non-relative (optional)
  • Resume detailing relevant experience, education and activities
  • Short 500 word or less essay that will indicate how your education will benefit the future of soybeans

 

Applicants are responsible for gathering and submitting all necessary information.  Applications are evaluated on the information supplied; therefore, be complete as possible.  All information received is considered confidential and is reviewed only by the Scholarship Selection Committee.  Applications Must Be Postmarked By March 1, 2013.

A scholarship that does not contain all required components will be discarded and not considered.

SELECTION OF RECIPIENTS

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of academic record, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, honors, work experience, goals and aspirations stated in the application, and an outside appraisal.
Selection of recipients is made by the Scholarship Selection Committee.  All applicants agree to accept the decision of the Scholarship Selection Committee as final. MSR&PCrequires recipients to maintain at least a 2.0 GPA. 
Applicants will be notified by May 1st.  Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. 

 

PAYMENT OF SCHOLARSHIPS

Scholarship recipients must submit their official college transcripts with application. Transcript must indicate major/field of study and GPA. (You will need to request an official transcript from the college.)  Once MSR&PC has selected the recipients, the full scholarship amount will be sent directly to the college where the recipient is enrolled or the recipient’s permanent address.
